National Museum of Iran

Tehran’s tourist attractions are an exciting collection of historic sites, modern urban structures and wonderful natural sights. But if you search for the most popular historic and cultural highlights, you will probably end up with three names: National Museum of Iran, Tehran Grand Bazaar and Golestan Palace. Enough has been said about the latter two but the former might need a proper introduction. Since its establishment in 1937, the National Museum of Iran has retained its mighty status as the most significant site of Iranian national heritage. The complex includes two museums, namely the Museum of Ancient Iran (Mūze-ye Irān-e Bāstān) and the Museum of the Islamic Era). The first building, a masterwork of modern architecture, was designed by the celebrated French archeologists and architects André Godard and Maxime Siroux. The design was inspired by the Iranian architecture of Sassanid era characterized by formidable high vaults and Iwans. Here the greatest collection of relics, remains and artifacts of the ancient Iran are at display. Apart from this matchless collection, you can also find works of contemporary Iranian artists in the basement of the museum that also includes a gift shop and a small café. The second building, the Museum of the Islamic Era, is dedicated to more than 13 centuries of Iranian history after the Arab Invasion of Persia. As mentioned above, the National Museum of Iran is immensely popular with Tehran 1 day tours and its address a common knowledge among cultural tourists. But if it is your first time in Tehran and you don’t know how to go to National Museum of Iran, we suggest you take the metro and get off at Imam Khomeini Station. Once there, it will take you less than ten minutes to reach the astounding gate of the Museum of Ancient Iran (you will also come across the National Garden (AKA Bagh-e Melli) on your way). One last detail we will address here, regards National Museum of Iran’s opening hours which are from 9 AM to 6 PM and the entrance fee, which is 500,000 in Iranian rial. That is all you need to know before you embark on your journey through the pages of Iranian history. Prepare yourself for a mind-blowing experience!
