Tehran - Alamut - Tehran
Alamut is located 208 km away from Tehran between the mountainous region of
Qazvin Province and the sweeping woodlands of Mazandaran. Alamut is one of the
primary destinations for off-road tours in Iran. The amazing mountainous nature
of Alamut is ideal for a large number of off-road activities. Alam-Kuh, one of
the pinnacles of Alborz Mountain range and the second highest mountain in Iran,
watches over the entire region from its towering crest. Professional
mountaineers in Iran never exclude ascending the mesmerizing summit of Alam-Kuh
from their annual agenda. Besides off-road tours, Alamut is also a perfect place
for trekking tours. In Alamut Valley, nature is at its most generous state. When
the glaciers begin to melt in early spring tiny wild flowers decorate the carpet
of snow with all the colors of the rainbow. Thus, hiking is immensely enjoyable
in Alamut Valley’s majestic collection of flower beds, natural springs and
miniature cascades hidden amongst the ravines and dense greenery. Among the many
spots included in our two-day tour of Alamut is Ovan Lake, one of the most
significant ecosystems of Qazvin Province. Flocks of migratory birds, some of
which are listed as endangered or threatened species, choose the bountiful
shores of Ovan Lake to sojourn in their never-ending route. The next entry in
our tour of Alamut is Alamut Castle of Assassins which needs no introduction.
Around a thousand years ago, and home to the mysterious sect of Hashashin, this
gigantic fortress clothed within the intimidating embrace of dark rocks had been
excluded from the rest of the world for two centuries. Among the few people who
were allowed to enter the impenetrable walls of Alamut castles were some of the
most distinguished scientists and astronomers of the age who reveled in the
castle’s unparalleled collection of books and scientific instruments.
